Members of the Iasi Team Visiting the Paris Office

Two XWiki Iasi team members were the first to personally see the new Paris Office!

As every XWiki employee is offered the occasion to benefit from an exchange between the two offices, now came Max's (our Web Designer) and Mircea's (one of our Web Developers) turns to meet the whole XWiki Paris Team. During their 10 days stay, they had the opportunity to interact directly with their colleagues and project managers with whom they usually work on distance. They had interesting talks about their missions, the web technologies they're working with, they participated to meetings, all in all it was a productive week !

Outside work, Max and Mircea took advantage of the nice weather, having a tour of the city and visiting the important attractions in Paris, trying tasty chocolate, meeting new people and getting into the French Culture.

If you want to be the next one visiting our Paris Office, take a look at our current openings and find your place in the XWiki team!

XWiki SAS will be at Social Now!

Social Now is an international event with a unique format, conceived to help you choose tools and identify approaches for the social organization, not forgetting the importance of adoption and accompanying processes.

At Social Now participants will see how Cablinc, a fictitious company, would use each social tools for innovation management, project-based collaboration and topic-based knowledge sharing.
1 company. 3 business cases. 13 tools (XWiki is one of them). This is what will help participants identify:

  • the best tool for their organisation
  • good tools to complement their existing ones and
  • processes and approaches they can use to improve adoption and impact of their own internal platforms.

In order to help participants further, a panel of three independent professionals will pose questions to unveil some more details about each tool and to highlight the important aspects to consider when choosing a tool.

Lee Bryant and Oscar Berg will do the keynote presentations. Samuel Driessen will host the event. Other experienced professionals will share some practical tips and an international audience will sure to have some great experiences to share.

Social Now is taking place in Oporto (Portugal), 27th & 28th June 2012.

The organizers are happy to offer a 25% discount to companies that mention the name of our tool in the registration form. But be careful, this offer is only valid until June 15th. Go on and see you there!

Proprietary versus Open Source

A couple of times I've been on a panel with executives from proprietary software companies, and interestingly I found their speech very defensive when it comes to Open Source companies. Usually they downplay the advantages of Open Source and question the ability of Open Source to create quality and supported software, because of the lack of financing through the sales of the licenses. Most of the time it is due to very little knowledge of the ways that allow Open Source companies to operate.

I personally don't have a problem that companies don't choose to have an Open Source business model. I believe everybody is free to choose the business model they are comfortable with, and I don't believe that Open Source is the right solution for ALL software. ...

In Rennes, for the BreizhCamp, Vincent Massol made a demonstration of XWiki used as a web development platform to built the Breizhcamp 2013 web site.

Among the features presented: the ability to register talks and speakers, and automatically generate a session calendar based on the entered talks, the ability to see all speaker avatars and to search for sessions.

He also demonstrated how to apply a Boostrap-based skin to make the site look like a web site.
