Welcome to the new XWiki Romania Office

Have you heard? The XWiki Iasi Team has recently moved!

After 7 years of working from the Copou area, close to one of the main Iasi universities, we have decided to move to a more central place from where we can enjoy a wonderful landscape: a view of the Palace of Culture - symbol of our city.

Valuing the idea of community, the XWiki team began working together from an apartment, grew to working from a big house and now, as the company celebrated its 10 year anniversary, we decided to move to an office building with a nice open space, meeting rooms and a cozy, fun relaxation room. We could not miss the opportunity to gather around and celebrate the move by throwing a party at the office and inviting our XWiki friends!

Now, you can easily find us at the following official address:

Şoseaua Naţională nr.178-180
Iaşi, Romania
Postal Code 700239

We are also online! Stay in touch with us through our brand new Facebook page.

If we've managed to catch your interest, let's try to find you the right place inside our team! Become an XWikier!

Seminar2014

The XWiki team is back home from Valea cu Pesti, Transfagarasan, where the XWiki Seminar 2014 took place!

While last year, we went for an equestrian journey, in the center of Romania, Danes, Sighisoara and two years ago, in a more excentric location, the Danube Delta, this year we chose the mountains and we held the XWiki Seminar 2014 in the Transfagaras Area, near the Vidraru lake.

What did we do this year? We spent again great time together! We had team statuses and brainstormings, discussing our accomplishments from the last Seminar and our plans for the near future. We showed our hidden artistic abilities at the XWiki's got talent event, we partied all night wearing our own favorite color. We built shelters, we sang, we created videos and we discovered the painter inside us.

Also, we enjoyed the nice view from our rooms and the landscape from the conference room. We made photos at the Vidraru dam. We climbed over 1400 stairs to reach the Poenari Citadel and we discovered the Curtea de Arges city. The day ended with a boat trip which became really adventurous due to the weather.

Discover through our photos the XWiki Seminar 2014!

And if you want to become an XWikier and join us next year at the Seminar, find your place in our team!

1st of June at XWiki

It is that time of the year when you remember how easy things were as a kid and how simple life was back then! One of the reasons for celebrating the 1st of June at XWiki each year is the joy of re-discovering our inner child and getting excited with the small things again.

XWikiers from the Iasi and Paris offices, gathered to celebrate the day. Sweets, balloons, Romanian & French kids books were present. We also enjoyed a glass of champagne...for children of course!emoticon_smile We couldn't miss the chance for a team activity, with each team member showing how they see their colleagues through original drawings that are still available on our whiteboards!

Easter 2014 at XWiki

Both the French and the Romanian teams celebrated Easter this year at the office!

At Paris, the XWiki team was engaged in the "Easter Egg Hunt" activity, having to gather as many chocolate eggs as possible. The competition was fun as the eggs were well hidden all around the office and the time was limited! When the time came to an end, two of the XWikiers who had equal scores entered in a finale to fight for the big prize! In the end, the winner managed to obtain 8 chocolate eggs and the whole team managed to find 47 eggs out of 60!

At Iasi, the Easter Bunny came with a very sweet surprise: eggs, small bunnies, little chickens all made out of chocolate! The XWiki team got together to enjoy the "Easter Sweet Day" at the office and share the Easter Bunny presents!

We now all have the needed energy to enjoy great holidays together with our families and friends!

Happy Easter everyone!

Job Shadow Day 2014 at the XWiki

The XWiki team welcomed this year another edition of Job Shadow Day at the Iasi Office!

Four high school students arrived on Friday morning at the office excited to find out what working in an IT company is like and how they can shape a career in this field. The members of the XWiki team that voluntary participated to the program were more than happy to give their general insight with a nice particular focus on how life at XWiki is.

After the well-known initial tour of the office and meeting the XWikiers, the high school students shared with us a little bit about their background, passions and expectations. This was followed by presentations on the company and some of the positions we have at XWiki: Project Manager, Web Developer, Web Designer and QA Engineer. The XWiki team volunteers had presentations on their areas of expertise and answered any questions related to their job, offered their support in installing the XWiki product, creating applications and doing tests.

We also watched videos toghether, solved quizzes, had free discussions and a nice lunch, taking most of the allocated time. We're looking forward to see the students again with other occasions and we hope next year we'll be hosting again Job Shadow Day at the office!

XWiki at the Open Source Iasi Event

The Open Source Iasi event took place on Saturday, 15th of March 2014, starting with 9:00 a.m, at Chopin Hall - Palas Mall.

Organized by Mozilla Romania, the Faculty of Computer Science Iasi and XWiki, the event welcomed around 80 people, with speakers from different parts of Romania and participants that are passionate about Open Source development. X-Mas Tree 2013 at XWiki Iasi Office

The whole XWiki Iasi office is very happy to welcome our star at the office: it's green, sparkly and makes people happy. No, it's not Vampire Hulk (he was not available despite our calls), it's the Iasi Christmas Tree! The whole team started the celebration by listening to some classical Christmas carols, as well as some more modern carols, setting up the mood for the actual event, which was over before you could say "The best way to organize information" thanks to our teamwork.

Don't believe us? We have pictures to prove it:

And if the pictures aren't proof enough, here's a video to showing just how awesome it is to be at the XWiki Iasi office during the Winter Holidays (coffee might have been involved):

We're now eagerly waiting for Santa as we're sure we've been good boys and girls this year, so we hope coals won't be wrapped under our tree anytime soon!

XWiki 10 Years

Happy 10 years XWiki !

10 years ago, in 2003, after a few weeks of experimenting to create XWiki, the first commit of XWiki was done on December 15th.
This started the longest ride of my professional career which is still ongoing.

With the help of all employees in France and Romania (and in some other places around the world), of all our customers, of all our users and contributors, also of some friends and people we met during all these years, we have brought XWiki to a place I'm really proud of.

I won't go much into all the progress and all the things we achieved in these 10 years (you can find a glimpse of it from the beginning of this year on our blog and on our Timeline page.
It's been a lot of sweat and a lot of efforts with some downtimes but way more uptimes and great moments. The result is worth every one of it.

I want thank all the people that helped us during this ride. We would not be there without you.

I will also look forward to see all the great things we can achieve in the next 10 years.

During our party yesterday, we wrote a bit (with humor) on our board where XWiki would be in 10 years. See the result:

Thanks also to our organizers of the parties in Paris and Iasi, particularly Benjamin, Diana, Miruna, Moncef and thanks to all our visitors that came share this important moment with us.

XWiki at Winter Web Workshop

During two days, on 7th - 8th December 2013, the XWiki team got involved in the Winter Web Workshop, event organised by Mozilla in collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Science Iasi, Romania.

The event started with the presentation sessions where specialists from academy and IT industry were speakers. From the XWiki team, Ecaterina Moraru opened the event talking about the concept and evolution of CSS, Andreea Popescu brought some insight on how someone can get involved and contribute in Mozilla and Ionut Maxim revealed aspects of the A/B testing for UX & CRO and decision taking process.

Their presentations are available here:

The presentations were followed by a Web Hackathon, starting from 18:00 to 12:00 next day, at which students participated with a lot of enthusiasm. 6 teams formed of 1 to 4 members proved their talent in developing several Web applications which are meant to be integrated in the Firefox Marketplace: cooking and recipes applications, greeting cards generator, games or decision maker applications.

The passion of the participants was quite obvious and admirable, mostly demonstrated by their involvement and time allocated to the projects. Based on well settled criteria, the jury awarded the teams, making the experience fulfilling for each participant.  The first prize (a mobile phone with Firefox OS) was won by a highschool student for the advanced cooking application that he developed: "Chef.io", the second one for the team that created the game entitled: "Bubble battle" and the third prize for the team with one of the greeting cards generator.

The XWiki team was happy to see the results of their work and we all congratulate them for their dedication!

Let's enjoy together the testimonials and photos from the event!

Each event that I organised was different and challenging. As organiser, I see WWW as a success, but it could have been better, because there are things that can be improved every time. The atmosphere was very friendly, the information explained by speakers was very good and the participants were very interested about it - Andreea Popescu

Every time I return inside the Computer Science Faculty doors there is a special feeling I have. In my opinion this kind of events are a blessing for the students and also for the presenters. There is a level of energy coming from people that care about what they are doing and from people that always want to learn and improve themselves (even in week-ends). Mr. Buraga is a great host and the person responsible for bringing together industry and academy in the eternal search for innovation, continuous learning and discovery - Ecaterina Moraru
