Our values
The Open Source
XWiki chose to follow an Open Source strategy for all its solutions. For XWiki, liberty is understood as:
- Liberty for our clients to take advantage of all the improved features of XWiki. We can adapt and develop your XWiki in order to best meet your organization's needs.
- Liberty for the community of XWiki developers to follow the most advanced research in the field of enterprise wiki, with the help of partners like the consortium OW2, Google, the RNTL and the European Union.
- Liberty to contribute to a development process of open software, with a public roadmap, where the decisions are taken by a group of committers chosen according to their competences and their investment.
- We appreciate the support of our community, of our users and of our clients. The choice of the LGPL license, according to which we distribute our source code, confirms our dedication to an Open Source strategy for our solutions. The Open Source is the only Sustainable Development.
Social responsibility and sustainable development
Ethics, sustainable development and social openness are the components of a responsible management. Since its creation, XWiki has adopted a responsible attitude in all activities (marketing activities, interaction with its partners, development, relations with the employees, etc.). The social dimension is our greatest strength.
We equally wish that the aggregate of actions in which we get involved to be 1) useful and productive for our partners, clients… and 2) would imply for our collaborators to work together systematically.
We wish to apply the values of the Open Source Culture to all our actions.
That's why XWiki SAS has published a
Manifesto concerning it's commitment to open source and transparency.
At XWiki, we are aware of the crucial role that different communities have in the success of the enterprise. Communities guarantee our development and support our corporate vision with their know-how and expertise.
Initially, XWiki was counting only on a few people. Today, XWiki has
more than twenty collaborators that work in close coordination with
several people, who participate in different ways to the development of XWiki. We thank
everyone for their work.

Taking action!
XWiki is involved in several initiatives whose aim is to promote, to support or to animate:
- the universe of Open Source: XWiki is a member of APRIL and PLOSS.
- the community of users : XWiki hosts for free the groups Java User Group (JUG) from the entire world like the Paris Java User Group (Paris JUG).
- the development in Open Source Software communities: in 2010, XWiki should organize a bounty.
- the uses of wikis: XWiki regularly organizes and animates seminars that bring together representative people from the universes of wikis and collaboration. For instance, XWiki organizes Wiki Wednesday. Moreover, everyone can get their own wiki on the community farm myxwiki.org.
- the new technologies, collaboration... : XWiki launched COLAB in order to present tools, practices… in an original way, more dynamic and participative.
Associative projects
XWiki is involved in several associative projects, like the project
Globe2Child.
Globe2Child
XWiki supports the project
Globe2Child of the association
Wiki-Up.
The project aims to create the first free community of children without borders acting to protect the planet and its perennial evolution.
In order to help the creation of this new community, the association Wiki-Up was looking for a flexible and extensible platform open to 6 year old children. The XWiki team used their know-how and expertise in building collaboration solutions to create Globe2Child.
The wiki removes barriers of time and distance between children here and abroad. We are very happy to work with Wiki-Up, which represents the values that we must pass on to organizations. The help of Wiki-Up is also an invitation for us to develop an innovative solution that connects children around the world.
The project Globe2Child is a journey that we are happy to take together !
Giving the floor to Internauts
Launched in collaboration with Socracy, France 2025 is the typical example of a project that allows everyone to express their own opinions on economical, cultural and political subjects.
France 2025
The site
France 2025 was designed at the initiative of Eric Besson, Secretary of State in charge of Exploration, Appraisal of public policies and the Digital Economy Development, in order to:
- Make public the results of discussions between various stakeholders (parliamentarians, social partners, officials, experts and representatives of the civil society) during several months, on 8 large themes (Europe and globalization, the management of scarce resources, the future of the State and public services, etc.)
- Give the possibility to everyone to be a part of the debate and the sharing, to bring their contribution by adding comments, by creating analysis or syntheses, by evaluating the other contributions, etc.
The heart of the
site is represented by the space "Your vision of France in 15 years", where the visitors/the citizens can express themselves freely.
