New To Wikis?

wiki / wi.ki / m.
A wiki is a website that allows visitors to add, remove, and edit content. Wikipedia

Invented in 1995 by Ward Cunningham, wikis created a new paradigm in information sharing. The term wiki comes from the Hawaiian "wiki wiki" which means "quick". Wikis have since been used all around the world by teams and groups of people seeking to collaborate their efforts more effectively. Wikis serve as a complement to other personal productivity tools such as e-mail, office documents and instant messaging, providing a support for the living memory of your organization.

The biggest and most well known wiki to date is the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an open, public wiki that has evolved into one of the most success sites on the Internet. The success of the wiki concept visible through Wikipedia and a number of other high profile sites has since triggered the adoption of wikis in corporate settings.

To remedy the deficiencies of most wikis in providing such basic necessities as powerful access rights management, and integration with existing business applications, we have built XWiki Enterprise to meet the demands of the enterprise wiki user, integrating advanced technology that makes it easy to share form-based information while leveraging resources from the web or from your company's existing legacy systems for increased functionality and productivity. But we didn't stop there.

Our goal throughout development has been to harness wikis' strengths wikis comes to improving collaboration and communication between team members, departments and organizations. After completing XWiki Enterprise we then went on to develop XWiki Enterprise Manager in order to streamline the administration of multiple wikis in your organization.
