Founded in March 2008, Balsamiq Studios is an XWiki Technology Partner that creates rich, elegant, high quality plugins for Web Office applications.

Their first product is Balsamiq Mockups. Launched in June 2008, Mockups helps software designers and developers build great software by letting them easily sketch out their ideas, then quickly collaborate and iterate over them. Balsamiq Mockups has netted over $2,000,000 in sales in first 18 months of business.

Context

Balsamiq Studios wanted to develop an interface prototyping application on top of XWiki OpenSource in order to leverage its existing user base. This application would allow wiki users to work together easily on the design of software interface mockups.

Solutions

Balsamiq came up with a plugin that makes it possible for users to create, edit and embed UI wireframes, while helping them save time and money.

The Balsamiq solution allows users to:

Create software mockups in a few minutes using a set of over 60 available UI elements
Perform tasks online, right on the wiki page and embed the resulting mockup in the wiki page they're working on

Other wiki users can edit the mockup afterwards and show the results immediately on the page.
