left quote

Our current situation is that XWiki is doing exactly what we want it to do. All of the functionality and performance is there. It's night and day difference having people work on it that really understand the software, and its potential.

right quote

CAPHC is a non-profit association representing children's hospitals and health centers across Canada. Its mission is to improve health services for children, youth and their families across Canada. As part of that mission CAPHC created a Knowledge Exchange Network based on XWiki to develop and share best practices in health service delivery to children.

CAPHC Knowledge Exchange Network

Context

CAPHC wanted an interactive, online community focused on sharing and growing knowledge in child and youth health service delivery. As a result the CAPHC Knowledge Exchange Network (CAPHC-KEN) was created. The CAPHC-KEN seeks to engage in a common, interactive knowledge exchange community practitioners, patients, families, researchers and other stakeholders.

Needs

CAPHC needed a solution that would:

  • Provide an easy way to identify and share practices;
  • Present the community with simple tools for sharing knowledge;
  • Speed up the process of adding new content;
  • Be used as a tool to gather feedback;
  • Provide notifications about the discussions taking place.

Solution

CAPHC chose XWiki Enterprise as their solution. Additional features were implemented on top of XWiki OpenSource to meet the needs of CAPHC:

  • A list of the default topics;
  • A form to create a new topic with the possibility to make it public or private;
  • Livetables on each topic listing all pages;
  • A livetable displays the hierarchical levels of pages; pages with no parent are all displayed in the livetable and their child pages (Level 1) are displayed below with an indentation.
  • Watchlist notifications;
  • Lucene search;
  • Homepage customization.

Since the beginning of 2012, the website get more than 12,000 unique visitors and more than 41,000 page views.
